Local store holds comic challenge as a fund raiser.

Pulp Nouveau Comix will be hosting 24 Hour Comic Book Day, an annual challenge for cartoonists to produce a 24 page comic book written, drawn, and completed in 24 consecutive hours. This year, the challenge will happen on Saturday October 18th at Noon.

“24 Hour Comics Day brings artists together for an unusual challenge,” said Michael Churchill, owner of Pulp Nouveau Comics.

“We’re bringing together educators, international superstars, and local luminaries to take part in this grueling test of endurance and skill.” 24 Hour Comic Book Day is a nationwide event, which started in 1990 by Scott McCloud, a cartoonist who creator of Zot, and writer of Understanding Comics. Pulp Nouveau Comix has been hosting the event since they opened, this is the first time for their new Canandaigua store. Among the guests include:

Stephen Lindsay, writer of Jesus Hates Zombies.

Benjamin Morey, musician and raconteur.

Ken Wheaton, inker, artist, and publisher.

Chris Yambar, Simpsons Comics writer, neo-pop artist, and cartoonist.

Jason Yungbluth, creator of Deep Fried.

Pulp Nouveau is expecting more than 20 active participants creating original works of art and literature, and observers are encouraged. Robin Alger-Parinello, owner of Wildflowers and the building Pulp Nouveau Comix calls home, is donating space for the event. Pulp Nouveau Comix will also donate 10% of gross sales for the weekend to the Ontario County Arts Council.

Pulp Nouveau Comix has comics for all ages, including collectable back issues and the latest releases. From independent publishers like Fantagraphics and Top Shelf to Marvel and DC, you can find an eclectic mix of classics, modern gems and graphic novels.
